A woman who drove into spectators at a homecoming parade in Oklahoma is being held on four counts of second-degree murder. Adacia Avery Chambers, 25, was arrested after Saturday's crash, which killed four people, on suspicion of driving under the influence. Police are awaiting the results of blood tests to determine if she was impaired by drugs or alcohol at the time.
Investigators say Chambers is also being held on suspicion of second- degree murder, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. Chambers' lawyer told a press conference his client was not drinking alcohol prior to the incident, adding that she may suffer from a mental illness.
Defence Attorney Tony Coleman said: "I absolutely can rule out alcohol."She doesn't remember a whole lot about what happened. There was a period where I think ... she could have even blacked out."
A two-year-old boy was among four people who died after Chambers' vehicle slammed into the crowd in Stillwater, near
Oklahoma City. The vehicle crashed through barricades and struck an unmanned police motorcycle before hitting spectators.
The three adults who were killed have been named as 23-year-old Nakita Prabhakar from Edmond, and Bonnie Jean Stone and Marvin Lyle Stone, both aged 65 and from Stillwater. Authorities say 47 people were injured in the incident, including nine
children aged 10 years or younger.
Mourners have created a makeshift memorial at the crash site, with balloons, flowers, toys and candles place to remember the dead.
